With parents who owned and ran their own small vineyard in the Clare Valley for over 20 years Kate’s interest in wine was inevitable.

Kate trained and graduated from The Royal Adelaide Hospital as a Registered Nurse in 1978, then worked in hospitals in Adelaide, Edinburgh, London and Sydney, specializing in Operating Room nursing.

Looking for a change in career, Kate returned to Adelaide in 1990, to commence an Associate Diploma in Wine Marketing at the Roseworthy campus of The University of Adelaide. Whilst on a tour of the Krondorf winery, Kate and John first met.

A wedding and 3 children later, Kate was persuaded to join Shingleback and put the Associate Diploma in Wine Marketing she received to good use.
