2012 Red Knot McLaren Vale Grenache Shiraz Mourvedre
Grenache Shiraz Mourvedre
"Deep crimson, bright; an effusive and ebullient bouquet with red fruits and spiced fruitcake on display; the palate is juicy, direct and uncomplicated, and designed and destined for early consumption; rightly so too. 88 pts."

"A prime example of a red wine well suited to sit at the table beside a board of charcuterie and cheeses - not too heavy and bold, but more juicy and slurpy, this grenache, shiraz, mourvedre (mataro) blend excites at first with its vibrant crimson colours and pretty purple aromas, delivers good balance and enjoyment, and is a great multi-tasker across many food styles."
Tony Love, The Adelaide Advertiser, April 17th 2013
"This has to be one of the best buys going around. It’s clearly in a league of its own at this price point and well worth grabbing for the winter ahead. An excellent current-drinking GSM blend from McLaren Vale. Medium-bodied wine, brimming with spicy fruit on the nose and palate. The fruit has a delicious succulence to it with a touch of older oak to add some texture. There is a warming alcohol that doesn’t overplay its hand and, all in all, it’s a wine that should be selling for a lot more."
Ray Jordan, The West Australian, March 21st 2013
"Medium garnet-purple in color, the 2012 Red Knot Grenache Shiraz Mourvedre shows off aromas of ripe black cherries, black raspberries and black currants with hints of toast, violets and cloves. Medium-bodied with mouth-filling red and black fruit flavors, a medium level of rounded tannins, crisp acid and a long finish. Drink it now to 2017."

"Red Knot is the entry level label for McLaren Vale winery Shingleback, which is known for its high quality reds. The wines under the Red Knot moniker invariably offer excellent value for money and this is no exception - a young, fresh and fruity red with plenty of luscious berry character that's designed for immediate drinking. This tickled my fancy and would be a great companion to a late summer barbecue."
Winsor Dobbin, Launceston Examiner, March 3rd 2013
"The Davey family’s Red Knot range delivers some of the best value for money drinking in the market. Red drinkers twigged to this a few years back, and retailers responded by including the wines among their regular discounts. The wines easily deserve $15 a bottle. But they’re bargains when the price drops closer to $10 – as they were when I wrote this review. The 2012 blend leads with the lovely musk-like fragrance of grenache, supported on the soft and juicy palate by the richness of shiraz and spiciness of mourvedre."
Chris Shanahan, The Canberra Times, 24th March 2013
Garnet with purple hues. Aromas of ripe summer strawberries, cherries and rose petals, with hints of milk chocolate. Concentrated cherry and blackberry flavours flow through the palate, restrained by the structural elements derived from the Shiraz and Mourvèdre. Just a hint of oak enhances the long, savoury finish.
Winemaker’s Note – serve lightly chilled in the heat of summer.
