"Deep garnet-purple in color, the 2011 D Block Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon presents freshly crushed cassis and cedar aromas fused with underlying hints of moss covered bark, pencil lead and damp earth. Full-bodied and taut in the mouth, it offers plenty of youthful black fruit accented by a judicious use of oak and a firm backbone of grainy tannins. It finishes long with a refreshing acid lift. Drink it to 2024+. 93+ pts."

Winemaking:

In a small niche of the John Petrucci vineyard, the soil, climate and Cabernet Sauvignon combine to create something special - the fruit that is ultimately hand-crafted to become D Block Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon. Gentle hand working of the skins in small, 5 tonne open fermenters and traditional winemaking practices protect and nurture the unique qualities of the terroir. Very fine grained French oak hogsheads are used to allow a long, slow maturation of the wine and subtle oak integration. A combination of new and 1 - 3 year old barrels, crafted by select coopers to our requirements, are used to create nuances and diversity of flavour. When maturation and oak integration are perfect, individual barrels are selected and blended to create the fruit power, complexity and harmonious balance that is Shingleback D Block Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon.

Tasting Note:

Deep garnet-purple. Seductive aromas of blackcurrant, earth, espresso and minty chocolate entice. The medium to full bodied palate shows lively blackberry fruit flavours on the entry that flow seamlessly through to the finely textured and long finish. A Cabernet Sauvignon with presence and understated authority, displaying a finesse and delicacy stemming from the cooler vintage conditions.
