NEW VINTAGE RELEASE
"Dense, yet bright crimson-purple; picks up where Davey Estate left off; intense, savoury, bitter dark chocolate unequivocally establishes its birthplace, varietal expression equally pure and intense, with a long - almost linear - palate, black fruits with sustained tannin and integrated oak. 95 pts."
Reprinted with permission from the 2015 James Halliday Australian Wine Companion
"Some neat perfumed red brambly fruits here. The oak is dialled back into balance with some earth and tar too. The palate has a supple red fruited core, creamy ripe tannins, plum and liquorice to close. Drink now. 90 pts."
Nick Stock for James Suckling, February 2016
Winemaking:
Select parcels of fruit from Shiraz vines grown across the Davey Estate vineyard are handcrafted in small, open fermenters to maximise the potential of each unique batch. Maturation for 16 months in 1 - 5 year old, fine grained American and French oak hogsheads softens, enhances and integrates the fruit and structural components of the wine. Individual barrel selection is carried out to create the final blend, which is minimally filtered prior to bottling.
Tasting Note:
Deep red. Aromas of ripe strawberry and blackberry are highlighted with notes reminiscent of warm summer rain on fresh turned earth. Blackberry fruit flavours and nuances of milk chocolate overflow the palate and linger moreishly. A subtle frame of fine grained American and French oak delicately enhances both flavour and texture.
